Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment addresses inflammation or necrosis inside the tooth, with the aim of keeping it and restoring its function.
Signs That It May Be Needed
- Pain When Biting Or Chewing
- Persistent Sensitivity Or Pain With Hot And Cold
- Deep decay or a fracture
- An abscess or swelling
- Radiographic signs of inflammation at the root tip
How It Is Done
Treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia with the tooth isolated. The canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed.
After Treatment
Root canal treatment is followed by the definitive restoration of the tooth. In most cases a crown is needed, to protect the root-treated tooth and restore its function. The appropriate restoration is chosen according to the position of the tooth and how much tooth structure remains.
